About See It:
See It is a research project led by Dr. Carman Neustaedter at Simon Fraser University, Canada. It evolved out of the activity known as Geocaching. Dr. Neustaedter is an active geocacher (aka: dr_carmster) and often caches by using printed maps of cache locations instead of a GPS device. This practice evolved into the idea of using images and other media to hunt for cache locations. The first "spots" were created as geocaches by Dr. Neustaedter in Rochester, NY, USA in 2010 and called “Media Mystery” caches. Since then, See It has evolved into an ongoing research project investigating the ways in which people hide and find hidden items using images and videos as opposed to GPS coordinates. See It is not meant to compete with geocaching or other forms of treasure hunts. Instead, it is meant to be another form of treasure hunt to engage individuals and families in a fun activity that moves them out of their homes and into the world to “play.”
